ABSTRACT
Vietnamese prose had some important innovation in the years from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Along with the popularity of the Vietnamese scrip in the life, Vietnamese prose appeared with the new genres such as fictions, short stories, notes…The process of modernising these kinds of prose has had somes differences between the South and the North. Bases on the acquisition of the West literature’s achievements,Vietnamese writes composed the works with new writing artistry, contributing to helping Vietnamese literature intergrate into the other countries’ ones. Comparing with the literature background of the countries in the region,we can recognise the similarities in the process of modernising the prose. The potential of each letters has an important part in the process of innovating the prose in that country. The article focuses on providing a general view of the process of modernising the prose of the countries in the Southest Asia such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singgapore, Thailand, the Philippines…

Văn xuôi Việt Nam có những đổi mới quan trọng vào những năm cuối thế kỷ XIX- đầu thế kỷ XX.Cùng với sự phổ biến của chữ quốc ngữ trong đời sống, văn xuôi quốc ngữ bắt đầu hình thành và thử nghiệm ở những thể loại mới như tiểu thuyết, truyện ngắn, bút ký…Quá trình đại hóa văn xuôi có những khác biệt ở Nam Bộ và Bắc Bộ. Các nhà văn Việt Nam trên cơ sở tiếp thu thành tựu của văn học phương Tây đã sáng tạo những tác phẩm với những kỹ thuật viết mới, góp phần đưa văn học Việt Nam hội nhập với các nước. Nhìn trong bối cảnh các nước trong khu vực, chúng ta vẫn nhận ra những nét tương đồng trong quá trình hiện đại hóa văn xuôi.Tiềm lực của mỗi nền văn học góp phần quan trọng vào tiến trình đổi mới văn xuôi ở nước đó.
