Futurism in Russian poetry

Abstract

Futurism in Russian literature came into the world in the late 19th and early 20th century. It was the epoch of social revolution and Futurism as a modernist trend reflecting both positive and negative sides of that epoch. The anarchist ideas, the reject of tradition, the experiental and destructive, shocking or vaguely confusing characteristics made futurist art to be considered as a decadent, hooliganist and rebellious phenomenon. Futurism was also a specific way of reproducing the social and mental reality of the time by the new generation of writers who were influenced by the realism but wanted to get out of its great shadow. If to put aside its extremist elements, we could admit that Futurism had its significant contribution to modern Russian literature, especially in the aesthetic aspect.
