1. The total number of the toponyms in South Vietnam includes 70,000 units. The main features:

2.1. The reality: The toponyms come from the names of political figures; the names of cultural

characters; the names of heroes and martyrs; the names of the folk characters; the names of

organizations, historical buildings; the names of the natural terrains.

2.2.The rustic features: Many toponyms derive from common nouns: the names of the intersections; the

names of the terrains; the names of the construction works; the names of the titles; the names of the

appliances.

2.3. The standard deviation of phonetics and spelling due to the limitations of the Southern dialect: the

ellipsis of phrases / sentences into very unique places; many words with simple phonetics are still used

as toponyms; the names of many organizations and unions become toponyms; many toponyms come

from nonstandard etymology; the names of many organizations and unions become toponyms;

2.4. The back-ups are found in hundreds of ancient, historical and local words from the Southern

toponyms.

2.5. The simile features are expressed through the use of two measures metaphor and metonymy.

2.6. The acculturation is found in acquiring Khmer and French cultures and in the process of the

cohabitation of these two peoples.

1.Cũng giống như các hiện tượng ngữ âm, các hiện tượng về ngữ nghĩa mang tính quy luật cũng có thể dùng để xác định từ nguyên tiếng Việt. Trong bài này chúng tôi xin nều bốn hiện tượng tiêu biểu là ẩn dụ, hoán dụ, láy nghĩa và chuyển nghĩa.Trong bốn hiện tượng này, hai hiện tượng đầu phổ quát hơn.

Trong địa  danh Nam Bộ có hàng trăm từ cổ, từ lịch sử, từ địa phương. Trong bài này, chúng tôi chỉ nêu một số địa danh mang các từ tiêu biểu.

Trên đường Phan Đình Phùng có chợ Phú Nhuận. Tên chợ này mới đổi sau ngày thống nhất đất nước. Còn trước đó, chợ mang tên Xã Tài. Xã Tài là ai? Đó là xã trưởng Lê Tự Tài, người chủ trương lập chợ này vào cuối thế kỷ XIX. Có lẽ việc đổi tên từ Xã Tài sang Phú Nhuận này là do có người cho rằng những viên chức dưới thời Pháp thuộc chỉ là công cụ của thực dân.

Tóm tắt. Mười hai con giáp hay thập nhị chi đã hiện diện trong văn hoá Á Đông qua bao ngàn năm, nhưng chưa ai xem lại vấn đề về nguồn gốc phi Trung Hoa của các tên gọi này - nhất là nguồn gốc Việt Nam của chính các tên này như Tý/Tử-chuột, Mão/Mẹo-mèo (phần 4), Ngọ-ngựa, Hợi-gỏi-cúi phần 5)… Liên hệ của tên loài vật và tên các chi khác như Thân, Dần, Thìn, Tuất … không rõ nét và cần nhiều lý giải hơn.Phần này đi vào chi tiết của liên hệ chi thứ 9 (Thân) và tên con khỉ.
