Abstract
In the early modern period, vampire folktale appeared among the ethnic groups in Truong Son- Highland over 100 years ago. Through this low-level myth, community’s folk religion that contains paranormal, mysterious and ghostly elements is reflected, accompanying by superstitious customs which could harm peaceful lives of people in bon, buon, plei, soc. The paper aims at the comparison of motifs in vampire folktale of two ethnic groups: one of Malayo-Polynesia and the other of Mon-Khmer in Truong Son-Highland. Furthermore, we show similarities and differences in realization of vampire belief in the spiritual life of indigenous people.
