Abstract
Nom verse stories originating in Vietnam can be sharply distinguished from Nom verse stories adapted from Chinese lowbrow literature. One indicator is native spiritual culture reflected in the works. Buddhism and folk belief contributed directly to the plot and structure of Nom verse stories of Vietnamese origin. This article studies the role of Buddhism and folk belief in the poetics of genre in those Nom verse stories.
